Electronic Bus Ticketing Systems

The Country of Cyprus offers public transport, only through subsidization of privately owned bus companies. Consequently the Ministry of Communications and Works decided to implement an electronic bus ticketing system to be installed on all participating bus companies.

In Cyprus, The Dept. of Transport of the Ministry of Transport had awarded this public tender to GE Global Communications, to locally assemble, manufacture and install 16 centralised bus depots together with 1000 bus terminals.

The integrated management system provides a ticketing and contact chip card solution, enabling the operator to manage and audit fares while providing passengers with a verifiable permit to travel and offering a print out receipt. 120,000 smart cards were also supplied to the Cyprus pensioners for free transportation.

This electronic fare collection and transit system provides:

  • A complete integrated fare collection, management and control system for public transport applications
  • End to end solution includes hardware and software for the bus system and depot system
  • Open architecture enables a variety of user defined features
  • Handles a very large number of ticket classes and fares
  • Contact and contactless Smart Card capabilities
  • Advanced technological design
  • Various user interfaces
  • Print out reports
  • plus many other features
