Company Overview

GE Global Communications Ltd., was established in Limassol, Cyprus, in 1995 with the intention of taking advantage of the liberalization of the telecommunications industry in Cyprus.

The company was the first to introduce indoor public coin payphones, maintaining 100% of the market for a period of five years. Initially, the company was importing complete units from the United Kingdom and at a later stage, designed and manufactured its own payphones, which were also exported to Greece and Egypt.

Concurrently, the company identified opportunities in the public sector and has been directly and indirectly involved with Republic of Cyprus Government tenders in specialist areas of high technology, such as differential GPS, marine radars, MF/HF, VHF/UHF transceiver systems, marine satellite communications, automatic number plate recognition systems, thermal imaging and others.

Some of the companies clients include the Ministry of Justice, Marine Police, Ministry of Communications and Works, Ministry of Interior, Land & Surveys Dept., Forestry Commission, Ministry of Defence and the Hotel and Catering Industry of Cyprus.

The most recent government contract was to locally assemble and manufacture electronic bus ticketing/microchip card machines for the Ministry of Communications and Works (The Dept. of Transport), which were installed in all Government subsidized public buses. The company also supplied the microchip secured cards to be used by the pensioners of Cyprus.

Since the introduction of the Euro coin in Cyprus, 1st January 2008, the company has been replacing all the existing Cyprus coin payphones with the new EuroPhone 2000.
